圣艾美侬传统特级 / Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classes

Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1er Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

A beautiful, understated wine with great depth and intensity. Pure and fragrant with cashmere tannins and great length and line. A resounding success for the first vintage in the new winery. Remains true to style. Drink 2018-2040. (18.5 points)

Chateau Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

As usual, a precise and elegant offering from this consistent estate. The limestone plateau and 55% Cabernet Franc provide line, length and finesse. It has plenty of dark, crunchy fruit and a deceptively strong tannic frame. Drink 2020-2040. (18.5 points)

Chateau Angelus, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Hallmark purple-black colour. Impressively concentrated for the vintage, offering dense, dark, vibrant fruit. Aromatically complex with cassis, spice, chocolate and orange zest notes. Full-bodied with a powerful tannic frame. Drink 2018-2035. (18 points)

Chateau Pavie, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Dark, saturated colour. Very ripe with blackcurrant and raisined fruit notes. Concentrated fruit on the palate, a touch Port-like but handles the powerful tannic structure of the wine. A bold, long-term statement. Drink 2020-2035. (17.5 points)

Chateau Troplong-Mondot, Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Dark and modern but the power commensurate with the vintage. Intense, spicy and rich but a little less force and more finesse. Drink 2020-2030. (17.5 points)

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse, Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Opulent but serious with lively, ripe fruit overlaying a firm, long-ageing structure. Great balance between the fruit and limestone terroir. Premier grand cru classé level. Drink 2020-2035. (17.5 points)

Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Deep crimson hue. Attractive fruit with just a hint of raisined ripeness but the palate is firm, fresh and long. Balanced and satisfying. Drink 2018-1030. (17 points)

Clos Fourtet, 1er Grand Cru ClasseB, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Crimson hue. Attractive fruit on the nose. Fresh palate with a fine, firm structure. A well-crafted wine minus the depth and intensity of the last three years. Drink 2018-2030. (17 points)

Chateau Pavie-Macquin, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Contrast of ripe, 'confit' aromatics and firm, muscular structure. A steely acidity emphasising the latter. Volume and depth but a bit of a bruiser that will need time. Drink 2020-2035. (17 points)

Chateau Canon, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Pure and refined but without the Eclat of the last three vintages. Still very fine and satisfying. In harmony with the vintage. Drink 2018-2030. (17 points)

Chateau la Gaffeliere, 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Chateau Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), 1er Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Chateau la Dominique, Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Ripe and zesty with a generous volume of fruit and a tight, firm, long finish. Serious wine for ageing. Continues the progression here. Drink 2018-2030. (17 points)
